ABSTRACT

Organizational climate is a set of characteristics of the work environment that are perceived directly and indirectly by employees and influence the behaviour of the organization's employees. An appropriate organizational climate can be effective in motivating employees, improving morale and the staff's participation in decision-making. So, it can be effective in increasing the staff's creativity and innovation as well as productivity and self-efficacy of them. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the association of organizational climate with the job self-efficacy of the operating room staff in the medical training centres of IUMS in 2020-2021. Methods: This study is descriptive and analytical research conducted in 2020-2021. The participants of this study include all the operating room. The research sample included 220 people. The data collection tools in this study are demographic characteristics form, questionnaire on organizational climate and Lyle Sussman and a job self-efficacy questionnaire by Riggs and Knight. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software through statistics of Spearman's correlation, multiple regression model and Mann-Whitney. Results: More than half of the participants (50.5%) had a good organizational climate and high self-efficacy (58.2%). The results of Spearman's rank correlation coefficient indicated that there was a significant relationship between organizational climate and self-efficacy (P<0.0001). Conclusion: Considering that there was a significant association between the organizational climate and self-efficacy, it is recommended that the officials of medical training centres improve the job self-efficacy and organizational climate of the operating room staff based on the conditions and rules governing the operating room by considering the following factors; knowing the organizational climate and personal characteristics of operating room staff, knowing the causes of various conflicts and knowing the ambiguities and challenges in the work environment.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To determine the vision-related quality of life (VR-QoL) and its dimensions in corneal transplant recipients. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was carried out on 100 patients who underwent penetrating keratoplasty. Data collection tools included a demographic questionnaire, satisfaction questionnaire, and Persian version of the 39-item National Eye Institute Visual Functioning Questionnaire (NEI-VFQ 39). RESULTS: The composite score of VR-QoL in corneal transplant recipients was 54.39 ± 9.22 (32.9-71.01). The highest mean score among subscales was related to color vision (74.75 ± 27.63) and the lowest related to dependency (31.06 ± 31.02). The results showed that there is a reverse correlation between VR-QoL with both age (r = -0.364; P < 0.001) and the numbers of years after the transplantation (r = -0.362; P < 0.001). However, there was a correlation between satisfaction and VR-QoL (r = 0.679; P < 0.001). Furthermore, the results showed that there is a significant difference in VR-QoL between men and women (P < 0.001) and also a significant difference in VR-QoL between unilateral and bilateral graft recipients (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The corneal transplant has the highest impact on color vision and the lowest on dependency. Moreover, the results of this study provide a comprehensive picture for the state of vision and overall health status of patients for health-care providers to enhance the patient care.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Thalassemia major has become a public health problem worldwide, particularly in developing and poor countries, while the role of educating the family and community has not been considered enough in patients' care. OBJECTIVES: This study examines the impact of partnership care model on mental health of patients with beta-thalassemia major. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This experimental study, with pretest and posttest design, was performed on patients with beta-thalassemia major in Jiroft city. 82 patients with beta-thalassemia major were allocated randomly into two groups of intervention (41 patients) and control (n = 41) groups. Mental health of the participants was measured using the standard questionnaire GHQ-28 before and after intervention in both groups. The intervention was applied to the intervention group for 6 months, based on the partnership care model. RESULTS: There were significant differences between the scores of mental health and its subscales between two groups after the intervention (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The findings of the study revealed the efficacy and usefulness of partnership care model on mental health of patients with beta-thalassemia major; thus, implementation of this model is suggested for the improvement of mental health of patients with beta-thalassemia major.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The consequences of a corneal transplant are evaluated and classified by care providers, but understanding and interpretation of the results varies between patients, and creates different views for them and influences their lives in different ways while these influences are largely unknown. AIM: This study aimed to explore understanding of new life in patients after corneal transplantation. METHODS: This qualitative study was conducted using a hermeneutic phenomenological approach in Tehran in 2016. Twelve corneal transplant recipients (7 men, 5 women) who were chosen purposefully from penetrating corneal transplant recipients, participated in this study. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect data. The content of the interviews was transcribed and analyzed using Van Manen's methodology. RESULTS: Data analysis led to the emergence of several main themes, among which "having a new sense" and "fear and hope" were two of the most important themes. CONCLUSION: It can be inferred from the overall participants' experiences that corneal transplant has brought about a new look at life for patients. However, transplant-related issues are endless and continuous, and a sense of fear and hope has always surrounded them.
